Planetary mixers are equipped with one or more star-shaped mixing tools. Two rotary movements are superimposed: the stars rotate about their own axis, and the star axes rotate about the chamber axis.
This planetary motion is controlled by mechanical gearing. Due to the constrained motion of the gearing, the stars may engage with each other. The speed of the stars and the planetary speed have a fxed ratio that is determined by the gearing. A second drive option includes separate drives for the stars and for the planetary motion. In this design, the peripheral circles of the stars must not overlap; however, the star and planetary speeds can be selected independently of each other. Planetary mixers ensure thorough mixing and are well-suited to applications in concrete plants.
