Cement-Modified Soil (CMS), Cement-Treated Base (CTB) and Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) are 3 different types of soil-cement materials.
CMS is a kind of soil materials modified by adding a relatively small proportion of portland cement to improve its undesirable physical properties, so it can meet the construction requirements. The degree of improvement can be controlled according to the quantity of cement added and the type of soil. If you add varying amounts of cement, you will get CMS with different physical properties to satisfy various demands. Depending on the predominant grain size, CMS can usually be classified into two groups: Cement-modified silt-clay soils (contain more than 35 percent silt and clay ) and Cement-modified granular soils (contain less than 35 percent silt and clay ). Note: Particle size between 0.002-0.075㎜ is named silt while less than 0.002㎜ is called clay.
CTB is an intimate mixture of aggregate material(or granular soils), portland cement and water. In order to produce a durable paving material in accordance with construction standard, you should pay more attention to precisely measuring the amounts of portland cement and water. When the materials are properly compacted and cured, CTB is formed and can support a bituminous or portland cement concrete surface to complete the pavement structure. It is widely used in highways, roads, streets, parking areas, airports, and materials handling and storage areas as their bases.
FDR is a kind of recycled soil materials to rebuild worn out asphalt pavements by using the deteriorated asphalt surface, base and sub-base materials. The production process of CTB is: After the original asphalt surface and base materials are pulverized, they will be mixed with some cement and water to create a new stabilized base. It is one economical and environmental way to rebuild the existing roads.
